OEA Contract Ratified! Fight for Public Schools Will Continue

While applauding the gains made with the agreement, educators vowed to continue their fight. Visit OEA to learn more about the historic strike and get engaged in the continuing fight for public education and students in Oakland.

After seven days on strike — with 95% of our members on the line, 97% of students out of school, and tens of thousands on our picket lines and rallies — we have reached a Tentative Agreement!
This is a historic contract with a win in every major proposal we made. We are now leaps and bounds closer to the schools that Oakland students deserve.
More information to come. Members will have 24 hours to review the contract, and then we will have a ratification vote. Tune in to OEA news on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram live to be a part of our historic press conference at 4pm.
When we strike, we win!
Oakland educators are raising their voices together for their students, their community, and for public education. Their union, Oakland Education Association (OEA), is fighting to end the teacher retention crisis and provide a great education for every student, regardless of their zip code. They have been working without a contract for a year and a half and have engaged in extensive negotiations with their district. Their demands outline a vision for building the public school system that Oakland families deserve.
Oakland educators are striking for:
✅ Smaller class sizes
✅ More student supports
✅ A living wage
✅ No school closures
